August 2026 Village Minutes

August 12, 2026

Present:  Maksimchuk’s, Birchmeier,  Gauthier, Tate, Ustishen, Olk, Besaw

Mayor Pro-Tem John Maksimchuk called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:00 P.M.  Motion by Gauthier, support by Besaw to accept the minutes, motion carried.  Motion by Ustishen, support by Besaw to accept the Treasurer’s report, motion carried.

Public Comments –  Fire Chief Bob Hobson was present to ask Council for their support and help in applying for a $50,000 grant for the Fire Department.  Motion by Birchmeier, support by Olk to apply for a Fire Department grant as a community serviced by them, the Village will do the paperwork and if awarded will then be reimbursed by the State of Michigan, roll call vote, all yeas, motion carried.  Bill Swain asked council about code violations and who enforces them.  Steve Reeves was present to ask about speed bumps in subdivision to stop the speeding.  DPW will get estimates on speed bumps. Glenna Raleigh was present to ask about some cable wires in the Alley behind her home and also about an internet service other than Brightspeed.

Police, DPW and Zoning Reports on file.

Motion by Birchmeier, support by Olk to lower the August Meadows subdivision speed limit to 15 mph., roll call vote, all yeas, motion carried.

Discussed during DPW report using some of the free milling from Saginaw Street project to place in alley behind fire department and signs will be placed for emergency vehicles only.  

Motion by Birchmeier, support by Besaw to allow the DDA to purchase 6 trash cans and rent 2 dumpsters, discussion, roll call vote, Besaw yes, Birchmeier yes, Ustishen no, Olk no, Gauthier no, Maksimchuk no, motion fails.

Regretfully accepts Village Attorney, John Ryan’s resignation effective at the end of the year.

Discussed selling the paint sprayer, DPW supervisor will check with company to see if they would be interested in purchasing it back.

Motion Besaw, support by Birchmeier to pay all the bills, roll call vote, all yeas, motion carried.
